Scooter’s 1426th bar, first visited in 2019.

I wanted to come here during our 2018 visit but couldn’t work it in. So I’m glad our unexpected layover gave us another chance!

This is one of the coolest brewery tap rooms I’ve ever been to, and the beer is fantastic.

I had a Time Waits For No One (Imperial Stout), which was very thick and boozy and delicious.

When we arrived I noticed that King Street Brewing was less than a block away. By the time we finished at Anchorage Brewing, the high ABV of my stout caused me to completely space on King Street. So, I have yet another reason to return to Alaska again!

Hard Rock Cafe Anchorage

I came in here specifically just to get my brother a hat, but decided to have a beer to make it official. I had a Twister Creek IPA by Denali Brewing.

BTW this place felt more like a neighborhood sports bar than other Hard Rocks I have been familiar with.

Gaslight Lounge

This wasn’t a bar we were planning to visit. But we were revisiting a bar around the corner (Darwin’s Theory) and we ended up parking in front of The Gaslight so decided to check it out too. I didn’t realize until later that this became by new Westernmost bar by about 100 feet.

This is like a country-sports dive bar. There’s a pool table, multiple bar games, lots of TVs, a mechanical bull, ping-pong, and a really ornate mid-20th-century style lounge booth in the front corner.

I had a King Street IPA and maybe a shot, I can’t remember for sure.

All that’s missing is a bucket of ice to make this the pinnacle of the dive bar peeing experience…

Any unexpected long layover in Anchorage, combined with a tip from someone that they have really god pizza, led to us visiting 49th State Brewing’s other location. (We had visited the Denali location in 2018, and coincidentally driven by that one again yesterday.)

In addition to fantastic food and beer this location features lots of TVs, multiple levels of seating including a large rooftop deck, and a big fireplace in the main dining area.

I had their Whiskey Barrel Aged Cabin Fever with my pizza.

F Street Station

Scooter’s 1256th bar, first visited in 2018.

This was billed to us as “the second oldest bar in Anchorage” as well as “the oldest bar in downtown Anchorage”. But it’s so well kept, you’d never guess it.

Like Darwin’s Theory, it was packed and we were kind of jammed into a corner, so we didn’t stay long.

I had a Morning Wood by Kassik’s Brewery.

This place came highly recommended as far as dive bars go, but we didn’t get a good chance to get a feel for the place as it was really crowded and we were uncomfortably jammed into the corner.

I had a Copper Creek Amber Ale by Silver Gulch Brewing Company.

After a day of hiking we googled the “best place for crab legs in Anchorage” and were surprised to find the answer right next door to where we had found “best pizza in Anchorage” the night before.

Beer-wise I had Kodiak Brown Ale and Wicked Dahk Porter, both by Midnight Sun Brewing Co.

Flattop Pizza & Pool

Scooter’s 1253rd bar, first visited in 2018.

By the time we picked up our rental car we were starving, so sought out something to eat that was still open. This fit the bill nicely. We definitely looked like tourists, though, as we were the only people not wearing shorts.
