I headed to Onyx and found it… virtually impossible to get to due to some sort of big outdoor event. So I decided to skip that and go to Bike Rack. But I’d already been to two other Bike Rack locations, and meanwhile I was feeling a sense that I would regret it if I didn’t give Saddlebock another try. So even though I was now about as far from zsaddlebock as it was possible to get and still be in this metro area, I decided to backtrack the 15-20 or so miles to go check it out.

This time when I arrived, it was both open and busy! Still, the staff was very willing to help me as a newcomer understand their selections.

On-site I had their IPA and their Irish Red. I also bought a bottle of their chocolate stout to-go for myself, and a bottle of their Hefeweizen for a friend.

After I finished at Bike Rack I drove a few miles to Macadoodle’s (a liquor store) to buy some regional beer to take home. By the time I finished there, it was time for Saddlebock Brewery to open. So a drove all the way out to the country and arrived there. Yes! Another place where I was the first customer of the day. Except wait, there’s no employee vehicle. The door was locked. Checked Facebook, and found a post made earlier that morning stating that they would be opening late. Crap. I was on a timetable, so so much for getting to visit Saddlebock on this trip.

I returned to town and it was still going to be quite a while before any other brewery on my list would be open. My route took me past Black Apple Crossing, and I began to feel guilty, and worried I’d regret it later if I didn’t visit every single craft establishment I possibly could. So I parked and went inside.

Thank god I did…. because I had no idea I was about to experience the BEST DAMN CIDER OF MY ENTIRE LIFE.

The tasting room is in the far back, behind the restaurant area, and there’s a good sized patio behind that. The credit card system was down so they offered me my cider for free, but I had cash so I would have none of that nonsense.

I had the Barrel Aged 1904 and the, oh sweet Jesus this was so amazingly good: the Hibiscus cider. That one was so good I got a 4-pack to go!

Scooter’s 1406th bar, first visited in 2019.

I didn’t want a full flight, but I also didn’t want pints, and she seemed confused by my request for 5oz tasters. So I decided to just go with half-pours and call it a day. I later wound up with a third half-pour due to a mis-pour.

This is a sprawling facility with all sorts of activities. There’s a patio in the front and another on the east end between two of the buildings, and outside the west end before the next building on the other side is a fenced dog play area.

I had the Hazelnut Brown, the Arkansas Red Ale, and the Toasted Coconut brown ale.

They were having a pet adoption event at 1:00 and I really wanted to stay to see the pups, but I had a ticket for a special exhibit at Crystal Bridges for 1:30 up in Bentonville so I had to miss out on the doggies.

There were foot trucks out back and it looked like a couple of picnic tables. In the photos below, check out the really sweet retro gaming room.

In addition to coffee I had the Guilded Maple (Belgian Quad) and the ANGUS CHUTE Oatmeal Stout.
