Scooter’s 1859th bar, first visited in 2025.

This was a completely accidental find.

We had spent the afternoon at Flora-Bama. While we were there we decided to have a fish fry back at our campsite. So though it was the opposite direction, we headed to Perdido Bay Seafood as it was the closest fish market we could definitely make it to before closing time.

While we were inside making fish selections, my disinterested wife wandered around outside. When we finished we could not see her, but a moment later she called and said to come around the corner because she found a bar.

Bushwhacker’s Landing is an open-air covered bar located right along the canal between Perdido Bay and Big Lagoon. Everything about it seemed new, and there was a lot of construction fencing still up. We learned it had only been open for 3 months.

We couldn’t stay long so had only one drink. But we liked it enough that two days later, while, out on a rented boat, we attempted to arrive by water. We got all the way there only to discover that the construction fencing we had seen was because they were still building their dock. D’oh! Oh well, we’ll try again next year.

I had a Paulaner Oktoberfest Märzen by Paulaner Brauerei.

“Oh, this is PERFECT!” I exclaimed as we pulled into the parking lot. What a majestic thing of beauty. The absolute epitome of a dive bar both inside and out.

It may have been the small size, but this was easily the busiest bar we visited today. The centerpiece of the bar is a bumper pool table.

I had Budweiser (aka Bud Heavy).

Nelson’s Liquor & Lounge

This dive bar in the back of a liquor store turned out to be a lot nicer on the inside than the creepy side door entrance made it seem. We had a good time chatting with the bartender and locals. I had a Guinness and I believe we also had a round of lemon drop shots.

Gary’s Brewery & Biergarten / Wandering Oaks Winery

Scooter’s 1856th bar, first visited in 2025.

This was just a couple of blocks over from Rocky’s Bar so it was a no-brainer making this our next stop.

As newbies we parked in front of the home brew supply store, realizing only after we left we could have parked a lot closer.

All of the seating is outdoors, with a large pavilion providing rain cover got a good chunk of the area.

Some of our group had wine, some had ciders, some had beer. I chose the Dark Helmet (Schwarzbier).

Rocky’s Bar

What was supposed to be an afternoon of beachfront bars turned into an afternoon of inland bars as there turned out to be nothing after Flora-Bama unless we went all the way past downtown Pensacola to the barrier island — something we didn’t want to take all that time doing. So this was our first stop after formulating new plans.

This is a pretty extensive space divided into two main sections – with the bar and pool tables on one side and video games and a stage on the other side. The bartender was very friendly and gave us all kinds of good info on places to check out if we made it further into the city.

I had a Guinness, as well as a shot and a bomb shot that were both ordered for me so I don’t remember what they were. (The shot might have been Fireball.)

Flora-Bama

After we realized the Florida state line was about 15 miles from our beach house, we drove the 15 miles + a few more feet to visit this joint just on the Florida side of the line.

Seafood restaurant, bar, gift shop, packaged liquor, and venue. Multiple stages, multiple bars, multiple rooms, and multiple outdoor decks.

We came during the day so it wouldn’t be busy, and it’s family-friendly during the daytime. By evening it switches to adults-only and turns into a big party.

I had a Florida Cracker White Ale by Cigar City Brewing.
