Scooter’s 887th bar, first visited in 2011.

This was tied with Chuck’s as our favorite bar on the riverfront, due in part to the intimate surroundings (the bar is WELL-separated from the restaurant by the ancient stone walls) but due more to the awesome bartender we had. They had a new flavor of vodka that had just come in so she spent a good portion of our visit experimenting with it and came up with some shot and drink ideas that tasted like winners to us.

Spanky’s Pizza Galley & Saloon

Scooter’s 886th bar, first visited in 2011.

This place was very busy and, being a pizza restaurant, had a lot of kids in it. The rectangular bar is somewhat separated from the dining areas, but not well enough to create distinct environments. However to the north of the bar is a cozy little drinking lounge with a flatscreen TV.

Scooter’s 885th bar, first visited in 2011.

Very cool Irish bar on the Savannah riverfront.

We grabbed seats at the large rectangular bar and had a couple of beers alonmg with several other patrons. Around the corner in the restaurant side of the establishment, live acoustic Irish music was being played.

I had to stop in here just for the name. We were the only customers in the place, the bartender told us it gets busy later in the night when the band comes in. He whipped us up some tasy tangerine shots.

I stopped in here because I needed to use their ATM, but in my mindset of what is proper that obligated me to have a drink here as well.

The front room, with the main bar, has a stage at the far back and a projection TV screen next to the bar. Parallel to that in the next room is a secondary bar in a more intimate lounge-type setting.

Chuck’s Bar

Scooter’s 882nd bar, first visited in 2011.

This was the first bar we spotted after descending the steps to the riverfront. It’s a quirky, funky dive with tons of character.

Our bartender was fun and friendly, and whipped us up some bonus shots to go with our beer.

There’s a pool table in the back, a lounge area with plush chairs in the front, and the restrooms are just as run down and dirty as you’d hope for in a place like this.

Lookup up info about this bar later I found it classified under “gay bars”. Personally, I didn’t see it. However I see no problem with calling it “gay-friendly”, since it seems like the kind of place where anyone is welcome and can feel free to be themselves.
