Scooter’s 998th bar, first visited in 2013.

We really wanted to find one more Kansas bar. But here we were just a mile or so from the state line, and what the thought was our last option — a bar called Our Place was closed.

We saw the VFW, but no lights were on. Luckily we needed to make a stop at the Casey’s across the street and the cashier there assured us it was indeed open.

No frills — just cheap drinks and good times. Also the smokiest bar of the day. All the seats at the tiny bar counter were taken, so we sat at the only open table. One group played cars in the corner, while some lively twenty-somethings shot darts in the other corner.
