Scooter’s 1438th bar, first visited in 2020.

My in-dash navigation led me stray, taking me to the south side of 150 into a residential neighborhood behind QuikTrip. Handy tip: It’s on the NORTH side of 150, behind the Harley dealership.

This is a brewery that opened and also saw a good portion of its ground-up construction take place during the COVID-19 pandemic, and it shows in the design. With a lengthy from wall entirely of garage doors and a spacious patio plus lots of outdoor activities, they put a lot of effort into bringing in fresh air and spreading people out over a large area. At the time of our visit a dog park was even in the works.

As a food option, there is an attached café called The Chive.

They focus on session beers, so you can enjoy the flavors and not worry so much about the after-effects. I had the Lay Back Amber Ale and the Tippin’ Stout. I also had a taster of their California Common right before leaving, which was the best example of that style I’d ever tasted.

Scooter’s 712th bar, first visited in 2010.

The hook-shaped bar in the back was full when we arrived, all old men. However the departure of two allowed us a place to sit. The guys here were all pretty friendly.

The bar featured a pool table and dart boards. I’m pretty sure there was a juke box though I am not certain.

Beer is nice and cheap here, and served in cold mugs. (But not frozen, thankfully!)

Scooter’s 711th bar, first visited in 2010.

The small L-shaped bar in the back is clean and comfortable and run by very personable bartenders. The bar features two pool tables, a shuffleboard, and older versions of Silver Strike and Golden Tee. (There’s no darts anymore, however.) There’s an internet juke box at the front end of the bar. Keeping with the name, dog “sculptures” decorate the bar. (Including an increasingly-rare Spuds McKenzie.)

This is one of those everyone-knows-everyone places, and the people here were very nice.

Scooter’s 710th bar, first visited in 2010.

The owners is a huge Steelers fan, as is her husband. The bar is decked out in Steelers memorabilia, and the husband has even been known to show off his Steelers underwear. The bar can get a little crazy during NFL season. Unfortunately they don’t have a Sunday license so have to settle for the Monday night games.

Apart from football watch parties, the bar also features pool tables, a shuffleboard, Silver Strike, and an old CD jukebox. It also has a friendly bartender and some of the friendliest regulars you could hope to meet.

Scooter’s 518th bar, first visited in 2008.

We entered through the rear, as had all the employees and the few customers inside. Which was a bad thing, because the angle of the sun was creating such a glare on the tinted front windows that the “Open” sign and lighted beer signs were completely invisible. Couple with no cars in the front lot, it created an illusion that the bar was closed. We saw numerous cars pull into the lot, drive by slowly, and leave. One of the employees started running to the front door each time trying to wave people in, but her efforts went unnoticed. So we we had the spacious interior pretty much completely to ourselves as we played Silver Strike.

If other times that I had driven by are any indication, the place was likely packed after the sun sank low enough to make the lighted signs visible again. So a note to any would-be visitors, yes this place IS open on Saturday afternoon despite how it may look from the front!

By the way this bar has a feature usually found in coffee shops but slowly spreading into bars these days: free wi-fi.

Scooter’s 517th bar, first visited in 2008.

As we left an older woman seated near the door informed us that this was the best bar in town and invited us to return the next time we were in the area.
