Scooter’s 1687th bar, first visited in 2023.

Since it was pouring down rain and we still had just under an hour to wait for our train, our choices were to wait outside under the train station awning or go across the parking lot for one last round of drinks.

I had a Barrel Aged Manhattan (pictured below). I believe there was one other drink — possibly a round of shots — but I don’t remember for certain.

In addition to the brisket platter, I had a couple of cocktails. The first was the Black Pepper Basil Smash (pictured below). The second was either the Maple Pecan Old Fashioned or the Campfire Old Fashioned, unfortunately I forgot to take a picture and I can’t remember which I picked.

They don’t do flights, but I still wanted to try a couple of different things. U had the Hoppy Vienna Lager and the White Oak Port Porter.

This is a spacious brewery, with three levels + a large outdoor seating area. It’s set up with a self-guided tour.

The restrooms (located in the basement) are massive. The guy who came in behind me (after I put the phone away, so he didn’t see me taking a pic so that’s not the reason) was scared to use these.

There’s a large courtyard that most business share, and though it was raining there was a small covered area that we decided to sit at.

We were planning to eat dinner here, but when we got inside it was so crazy we decided “no way” and just had drinks. (We later got snacks at the BP across the street then reheated the previous day’s leftovers back at the house.)

I was kinda hoping to get to see the upstairs sister bar (Up Top @ Loose Caboose), but it isn’t air-conditioned so doesn’t open during warm weather.

I had Guinness.

We started to come here Friday night but it was too crowded and noisy, tonight it was a somewhat more relaxed environment.

I don’t remember what the cocktail was that I got, and unfortunately I didn’t snap a pic of the menu so I might never know what it was.

We lost part of our group here to tiredness, they went back to the house.

At first this place looked tiny, but then I noticed it occupied both sides of the building and has a large seating area on the half behind the bar. I was also told there is a patio in back though I didn’t go for a look.

Just now, while writing this, I also learned it is a hotel and there are guest rooms on the upper level.

We each had a cocktail, I chose their take on an old fashioned for mine.

Scooter’s 1679th bar, first visited in 2023.

Having opened in 1878, it claims to be the oldest continuously-operating bar west of the Mississippi. This makes at least three bars now I’ve been to that make the same claim.

Since we were just here for drinks I didn’t look at the food menu, but from what I saw on plates it looked like sausages/brats and other German good.

I had Guinness and had a round of shots as well, though I don’t remember what.

The food was good, but it was a but of a surreal experience. About 10 minutes after we started eating, the server came out to apologize for the delay, then began bringing out a duplicate of one of our table’s meals. They ended up not charging for it, and we ended up reheating those leftovers later around midnight when we were watching the meteor shower back at our rental house.

The other thing that made this a weird visit was spending 15-20 minutes searching for a missing cellphone that we later found out had never bee brought here in the first place.

I drank a Midnight Whistle (dopplebock) by Tin Mill Brewery. I wanted to have a second beer, but the second round we ordered was never delivered.
