Scooter’s 1806th bar, first visited in 2024.

Though I had another long layover at MSP, this time I decided to not leave the airport and instead wandered around until I found a bar that wasn’t too busy. Though I’d just eaten a shrimp basket at the Sioux Falls airport less than 2 hours earlier, I was already hungry again and got myself some fish & chips. I washed it down with a Mudpuppy Porter by Central Waters Brewing Company.

We got dropped off at the airport and were at our gate 6 minutes later, so we had well over and hour to kill before it would even be time to start thinking about keeping an eye on boarding time. We picked this spot since it had traditional breakfast food.

Since I’d already had plenty of Atwater beer at the main brewery, I went with my airport standard of Coffee & Bailey’s here.

Open Space Tap Room

We had originally planted ourselves at a table at Tundra Taqueria, but since the liquor regulations here apparently differ from our airport back home (where any drink you buy can be taken anywhere in the airport) we couldn’t get the drinks we wanted unless we sat at the bar. There weren’t enough seats available at the bar so we moved over to Open Space, which did have tables inside the fenced-off drinking area.

“Wow, they sure have a lot of Elysian beers on the menu,” I thought to myself before figuring out that it’s affiliated with Elysian Brewing.

The snacks, drinks, and service were all great, and it was a nice comfortable area to kill some time while we waited for our flight to board.

I had the Dragonstooth Stout.

As I was heading to the airport my online boarding pass showed my flight departing from concourse G, so I picked out a bar there to grab some lunch and hang out at.

By the time I got through security that had changed to a gate in concourse F. Having not done any advance research into F, I went and found my gate first, then saw this place right across from it. A perfect spot to grab some lunch and a drink while keeping an eye on my gate.

They were out of a lot of food items, but they did have chicken tenders and fries. I was feeling a bit beered-out so I got a drink called Minnesota Goodbyes — a coffee-based cocktail.

After I finished my drink and lunch I was considering ordering a beer. I glanced over at my gate to see how things were looking, and now there was a different city on the screen! I checked my boarding pass, and now it had a new gate again, this time way over in Concourse C! So I had to close my tab and speedwalk, reaching the new gate with just minutes to spare before boarding.

And another new Alaska Lounge. We didn’t really have time to go to our usual (and favorite) Alaska Lounge in Terminal N, and the nearest lounge to our gate in Terminal C was over capacity, so we headed to thye one in Terminal D. Located near

This location was a bit annoying because it’s split onto two floors and some food/drinks are upstairs while others are downstairs.

I had a Crikey IPA by Reuben’s Brews.

Talked our way in certain we’d been let in to other Delta Sky Clubs even though we didn’t qualify. Later realized we were confusing it with the Alaska Lounge, which we do qualify for. Oops! Anyway, I had a few glasses of sparkling wine.

This was not an intended destination, but our flight was delayed by a couple of hours. It was clear that they don’t normally expect a couple hundred stranded people here first thing on a Sunday morning so there was only one employee handling all of the jobs.

I never got a chance to take a picture as I was running back and forth between here and the gate counter, so the pic here is stolen from the airport’s Facebook page.

Not wanting beer this early in the morning, I had a couple of Coffee & Bailey’s.

Alaska Airlines North Satellite Lounge

This private lounge was a godsend during two long layovers here. Lots of comfortable places to sprawl out and sleep, a complimentary buffet, and complimentary drinks. One section is reserved for people who want quiet and has fixed recliners and large booths.

I had champagne, a couple of cocktails, and a Lounge Life (IPA)by Fremont Brewing

Big Mike’s

Formerly a sports bar and now a night club, Big Mike’s is technically the hotel bar for the Quality Inn. However it’s isolated enough from the motel to give it a standalone feel like it’s for the locals as mucch as it is for the tourists.

I enjoyed the spherical goldfish bowl at the end of the bar. Unfortunately is was so cloudy it was hard to see the fish inside.

Does not seem to be open anymore, but something has likely replaced it by now.

Airport bar. I had a 24oz beer and it came with a free 16oz beer. Needless to say, I slept well on my flight!
