Stop #2 in a mid-Missouri brewpub crawl. This is the tasting room at the Mother’s Brewery. There are no flights, but they do let you taste before you buy and you can buy half-pints in order to enjoy more varieties.

I’ve been a fan of Mother’s ever since I discovered it a few years ago, so I took advantage of this opportunity to try out three varieties that aren’t found back home in Kansas City.

Scooter’s 1025th bar, first visited in 2014.

This s the first stop of a mid-Missouri brewpub tour. We had lunch here, the food was pretty great (I had some very impressive fish and chips).

There were 6 beers on the flight. Since I don’t like wheat beer, two of them were automatically out for me. But I enjoyed the other four.

This is a pretty huge place, with two large dining floors (we sat upstairs), two bars, and a big rooftop patio.

If you’re wondering why everyone in the main photo is looking to the left, it’s because there are two things happening just outside the frame. First, a woman existing the brewpub tripped, then dropped and fell on top of her baby. The baby was perfectly fine (in a carrier) but the mom was pretty freaked out. Secondly, a cigarette bin had just caught fire.

I’m amazed I was able to find this place later to add it to this list! We were visiting a friend who was driving us a crazy, convoluted route. It was night, it was pouring down torrential rain, we had to take a crazy back way in due to streets being closed for some sort of cider festival, and then we had to run in the rain to go in a back stairs entrance.

Once inside and I got a look around I was able to figure out we were inside some sort of converted old house (which is blurred out in Google Street View for some reason). The place was packed with college students, which surprised our friend. “Usually it’s much older people in here,” he said, “But then again I’m usually in here during the daytime on weekdays, not on a Saturday night,” he laughed.

We shared a pitcher of a local brew and chatted for a while with a couple of the employees until closing time.

While my friend Ken and I were in Springfield visiting our buddy Nik, we spent about an hour here downing a pitcher of beer and some of the tastiest burgers I’ve ever had!
