Scooter’s 1874th bar, first visited in 2026.

There are two halves of this bar. The south half used to be the Class Reunion Lounge and was hosting bingo the night I was here. The north half used to be Joe’s Standard Bar and has pool tables. This is the half I was in for a birthday party. I did not see any obvious indoor connection between the two halves, but I also didn’t try looking very hard.

I had Guinness.

Wind Shift Brewing

This was the first stop on what was originally intended to be a short brewery crawl until we started making additions to the list later in the day. Bonus, it turned out I knew the bartender!

I had a flight with their WeTHər (Kölsch), Noctilucent: Simcoe & Citra (DIPA), Jasmine Pilsner, Tiramisu White Stout, and Coconut Porter. I later added on a Dank Skies American IPA), and got a can of Stay Ahead Of The Wind (Farmhouse Ale brewed in collaboration with Big Rip Brewing) that I drank a couple of weeks later.

We next made a stop at East Forty Brewing because my brother had never been and I wanted to try their take on Black Is Beautiful.

I’m not a member so technically I shouldn’t have been on the bar side (I was there for a private event in the reception hall), but I was there with some smokers and that’s where the designated smoking area is. So… loophole!

The bar area is spacious and very nice, with a large patio that can be enclosed in bad weather.

There is billiards, darts, Golden Tee, and various other bar games.

A new brewery in downtown Blue Springs. Lots of seating inside, several games (including skee-ball), and a good sized covered patio. Plus, cool bathroom sinks!

I had a flight of their Mango HABANERO Dog Days Summer Wheat, Right Track IPA, Big Head Red, and Second Breakfast port (my personal favorite of the bunch).

The bartender was pretty kick-ass, though.

Roadies Rockhouse

Scooter’s 714th bar, first visited in 2010.

We stopped in here because it was the ONLY bar along 7 Hwy in Blue Springs open… all the rest opened too late and missed out on our visit.

There’s some confusion on the name because it still says Harley Hotrods everywhere outside, but a painted sign indoors says “Roadies Rockhouse” and a liquor license search confirms the new name.

The bar is located in a retail space that has served many purposes — including, if my childhood memory is correct, a national-chain drug store. So it’s a very large space and has a tremendous amount of seating.

The main room has a pool table, several arcade games, foosball, and the stage. There’s two more rooms, one is full of pool tables and the other I didn’t explore.

The rotating specials allow for very cheap drinking — we had 16oz PBR for $1 each. That’s a steal!

There was one thing that I did find amusing about the place. To me, this is clearly not a place for kids. Yet high chairs and booster seats are available.

B had said we’d be carded harder here than any other place, and he was right. All 3 of us were carded… sort of. The bartender changed her mind about carding me after checking D’s and B’s IDs.

One odd thing about the layout of this bar is that while the women’s restroom is inside, you have to physically leave the bar to get to the men’s restroom.

This bar had no sign and at the time wasn’t listed in Google, but we found the name on a drink special sign inside. We played the trivia box here and it was an unbelievable 50 cents a credit, but D insisted several times throughout the remainder of the day that it was worth it because the box itself looked “very sleek” and “modern”.

When we asked for 10-oz draws our bartender asked us why we wanted such small beers. Not wanting to get into too much detail about our plans for the day we just said that we were on lunch break for work. “Where do you work?” she asked. Not wanting to get trapped, I said “Oh, we all work at different places and just decided to meet up here for a beer.”

With our 10-ouncers in hand, we settled down to play the trivia box.

The odd centerpiece of this bar is the televangelist-style image of (presumably) the owners, painted onto a mirror…

Blues, Jazz, Bluegrass, & Rockabilly venue in a strip mall. Several pool tables, too.

The coin boxes on the pool tables were being emptied while we were here and I never realized how much money pool tables make. Sounded like slot machines.

Lots of beers on tap, but nothing any of us hadn’t had before so we stuck with the basics. Too clean and too big of draws for our tastes, but many consider this a Blue Springs bar staple.

Gridiron Lounge

The Gridiron is the end point for one of the world’s shortest St. Patrick’s Day Parades, an annual tradition for over 3 decades. The parade begins across the street at the old Lowe’s Drug building and has a total length of 66 feet.

One thing that was amusing to us was the restroom. Tiny side-by-side stalls for women and men opened to a common sink. The stalls were so small that the men’s stall had a notch cut in the door so that it could be closed without hitting the toilet. The toilet itself had a makeshift tank lid fabricated out of a piece of sheet metal. A true classic.

By the way if you are a KU fan, stay away. You’ll be mocked and ridiculed until you cry.

UPDATE: Revisted on June 30, 2018. Now named The Keg. It’s been fixed up a little bit, but they kept some memorabilia from the Gridiron days. The men’s toom no longer has a sheet metal toilet tank lid nor a notch cut in the door.

Also the beer list has expanded to include more locals. I had a Hard Way IPA by Martin City.

Ranch House

Scooter’s 395th bar, first visited in 2007.

Technically in unincorporated Jackson County, the Ranch House is believed to be the oldest bar in Eastern Jackson County, both in terms of continuous operation as the same bar and in terms of the age of the building housing it.

Our bartender was extremely friendly and helpful, giving us information about the locations of all sorts of bars in Blue Springs to help us start off our day.

UPDATE: Revisited on June 30, 2018 and took a couple of indoor pictures. (Bartender was friendly and helpful again, too!)
