Despite it’s Lee’s Summit address, it’s located about a mile and a half outside of Lee’s Summit in a tiny sliver of unincorporated Jackson County Its western property line is the Blue Springs city limits, and its southern property line is the Lake Lotawana city limits.

This brewery opened a couple of years ago but I hadn’t had a chance now to make it out here. This is an extremely cute little place with rather good beer and one of the nicest restrooms I’ve ever seen. There’s a really nice outdoor area too, but despite it being partly covered and there being a fire we decided it was just too cold.

I had the Colombian Connection Coffee Porter.

I’m going ahead and marking this as having food, because they are in the process of adding a kitchen and its opening is imminent.

This brewery is located in an odd little geographical nexus. It is within the city limits of Lake Lotawana, has a Grain Valley address due to just barely being inside the 64029 zip code, and is within yards of Blue Springs.

It was pretty quiet when we first arrived, but began to fill up during our stay. Before we left every person we had seen at Brewhaus ended up being seen here as well despite many of them heading a different direction when they left Brewhaus. In fact, even one of the bar-backs had been seen by us bar-backing at Brewhaus!

This was a fun bar, with a gaming area on one side while the bar itself filled the other half. Like Brewhaus it also had a sidewalk seating area, though this one was much larger.

Each time I tried to take a picture of the outside there were people standing in the way, so I took the exterior photo early the next morning while no one was there.

I had a Dank Meme (pale ale) by Triptych Brewing and a Zombie Dust (pale ale) by 3 Floyds Brewing — the latter is the beer pictured below.

Our first of two stops was a long, skinny building with a rather beautiful bar along the front half and ornate vintage ceiling work. The back half had pinball machines and shuffleboard, and a small separate room of electronic casino games. While we didn’t notice it and it’s not in my photo, Google Street View shows a small area of sidewalk seating — it looks temporary though so may be seasonal.

I had two glasses of Moose Drool (brown ale) by Big Sky Brewing, a reliable favorite of mine.

This is a very dog-friendly brewery so there were a few pooches present, and the outdoor seating area is fenced-in so they can stretch their legs.

There isn’t food, but there are food trucks on certain days/times and a schedule is posted on the wall inside.

Since I’ve had so many of their beers I opted to not have a flight and instead have a full glass of Saginaw Joe Porter.

The owner is a breast cancer survivor with a fascinating and inspiring story. She bought full ownership not long ago and has already put a lot of work into renovations. Her future plans are to renovate the former guest rooms upstairs into vacation rentals.

This bar is known for its food, its cocktails and Bloody Marys, and for sing-it-at-your-seat karaoke that is available by request.

I has a Christmas Cookie cocktail, a mini beer, a Widow Maker (black ale) by Keweenaw Brewing, and a Black & Tan by Yuengling.

The bar was EXTREMELY crowded so it was impossible to have a proper visit, will have to return another time for that.

This place is divided into two halves. The north half (shorter building) is the bar area, and the south half (taller building) is the dining area with a pool table, dance floor, and DJ booth. In back is a covered, heated deck. There appeared to be a second level but it was too crowded to get to the stairs.

It was surreal seeing young children inside at almost midnight, but apparently kids are allowed as long as they stay out of the bar side.

This is a basement bar, albeit a walk-out basement if you enter from the alley side. Good to see more basement bars in KC, we don’t have as many as other cities. (I later learned there’s another newer one a few days earlier whose main entrance is also in the alley.) There is foot in the form of a taco truck on the patio.

We arrived to a nearly-empty bar just after a group left, but by the time we left ourselves it was starting to fill back up. The bartender said it’s busiest after 10pm.

I only had a few minutes to stay so had a Guinness. I’ll have to come back another time to spend more time here.

This is a bar that actuallypours Guinness correctly, so it took several minutes.

The shower curtain is an interesting design choice.

I went back and forth several times as to whether to include this on this site, as we did not sit at the bar or even inside the building at all, and we had meals here. There are two other places we went to on this trip that I did not include on this site for similar reasons (Bahama Bob’s in Gulf Shores later this day, and CoastAL in Orange Beach the day before). The reason I decided to go ahead and include this because for me personally, my primary motivator in coming here was for drinks, the food was secondary. The other two places I mentioned I went to specifically for a meal, any drinks I got were incidental to the meal and since they were neither ordered at nor consumed near the bar and the drinks were not the reason for going to those places, I have chosen to leave those out.

We had spent the afternoon at Flora-Bama. While we were there we decided to have a fish fry back at our campsite. So though it was the opposite direction, we headed to Perdido Bay Seafood as it was the closest fish market we could definitely make it to before closing time.

While we were inside making fish selections, my disinterested wife wandered around outside. When we finished we could not see her, but a moment later she called and said to come around the corner because she found a bar.

Bushwhacker’s Landing is an open-air covered bar located right along the canal between Perdido Bay and Big Lagoon. Everything about it seemed new, and there was a lot of construction fencing still up. We learned it had only been open for 3 months.

We couldn’t stay long so had only one drink. But we liked it enough that two days later, while, out on a rented boat, we attempted to arrive by water. We got all the way there only to discover that the construction fencing we had seen was because they were still building their dock. D’oh! Oh well, we’ll try again next year.

There’s ample seating inside as well as a massive courtyard outside. Food is served from a kitchen around the east side of the back of the building, from what I overheard this was a fairly recent addition. They had a wide variety of beer styles and they were all good to very good.

The bottom level (Baltimore Street side) is everything you expect from a tiki bar. Dark, island-themed, and lots of fun cocktails. I hade the Cafe Kahuna and the Saturn.

The upper level has more of a lunch place feel but is nice in its own way. It has large garage doors that let in a lot of light and open up to the outdoor patio. However that patio is basically a set of tables in the fenced off area of a parking lot, so that aspect of it is meh compared to the rest of the place.

The oldest part of the building (south end) was originally a gas station, the bartender was unsure what the newer addition had originally been used for. There’s lots of eating inside throughout two rooms and a big covered patio in the front. There’s a kitchen but I didn’t try the food since I’d just eaten lunch not long earlier.

In addition to their craft beer the menu also includes cocktails and frozen margaritas.

My beer flight consisted of The Duke (imperial brown ale), Watkins Mill Campground (English ale), 37th Chamber (Irish Stout) and Steven’s Last Night In Town (spiced Belgian IPA), a brand new beer they had just tapped less than an hour before I got there.

The inside is mostly restaurant space spread across multiple rooms and both covered and fully-exposed outdoor areas. The grounds, which overlook Lake Michigan, are expansive and decorated with sculptures created by the original builder. There is a gift shop in the main building plus another one across the street. The bar consists of a big square bar counter on the northeast side of the building and an adjoining room with a poo, table and benches built into the walls.

I ate kielbasa and drank a Nightswimmer Stout by Stormcloud Brewing Company. Then for “dessert” I had a cocktail called Pączki & Cawa.

The Vue gets its name from its stunning view overlooking the canal where Lake Charlevoix empties into Lake Michigan via Round Lake. There are live cameras outside watching the canal and the bridge that are connected to video screens inside. Though we soon figured out there is about a 20 second lag — which one member of our group exploited by running outside to do goofy things then running back inside to watch himself on TV.

I had a glass of Prosecco, but I don’t remember it it was Syltbar II Concerto Prosecco (Italy) or Coppola Prosecco DOC (also Italy), as they were out of whichever of the two I ordered first. Later I followed that up with an espresso martini. I also shared in the charcuterie board we might for the group.

New Holland’s tap room consists of three connected buildings. Furthest east, toward the center of the block, is the gift shop and packaged beer/spirits to-go store. Next over is the restaurant, and finally furthest west on the corner of the block is the bar — which includes additional mezzanine-level seating in the back. There’s café style seating out on the sidewalk, and also a large (mostly)-covered patio in the back.

Finally able to enjoy Dragon’s Milk in its natural habitat, I started with just regular Dragon’s Milk. Next up, Dragon’s Milk Reserve: Double Bourbon Barrel-Aged Stout With Madagascar & Indonesian Vanilla Beans (2021-2). And, finally, Dragon’s Milk Reserve: Rum Barrel-Aged Stout with Chocolate, Hazelnut, & Toasted Coconut (2020-1).

Then I went over to the gift shop and spent way too much money.

It turned out we had inadvertently crashed a reunion — I think possibly a 40-year high school reunion. (That’s just a guess.) Looking around, there were very few people in there who were not wearing name tags.

Thy were not doing flights — unsure if that is normal policy or temporary due to the reunion — so I had a Bourbon Barrel Texakan Willcott stout. There was disagreement and confusion about what the actual ABV was, so since it was barrel-aged and I was poured 12oz I decided to err on the side of caution and take it easy after this one.

After an hour lying on my bed watching a tornado documentary, I got a second wind of another kind and remembered a cocktail bar I’d noticed the previous night while walking back to by room. I decided to head back out and check it out.

This place was hopping, but I was able to find an open seat at the end of the bar. I chose a cocktail called Welcome To The Tarragon that I chose due to its tasty-sounding ingredients (see below).

After that I walked back to my room to go to bed for real.

The brewery was pretty busy, but post of the people were outside on the patio. There was a concert taking place at a public amphitheater just over a block away and the music was spilling up into here.

After finishing here I walked past the outdoor concert and returned to my room. Beat and buzzed, I settled in front of the TV to stay in the rest of the night.

The bar was prepped and ready for a birthday party, and I felt a bit about of place as I seemed to be the only person who wasn’t there to see the birthday girl (who arrived near the end of my visit).

This bar is very biker friendly, and several of them were sitting out on the deck outside the east end of the building.

One cool item I noticed near where I was sitting is a very realistic 3-D model of the building. It’s in the pictures below. Also, the bar is known for having funny messages on its sign out front.

Look’s Beer Company is located inside a massive single-story white building named Look’s Marketplace, located on a massive estate. It has several shops (mostly various food markets), the restaurant and brewery, a brunch place, and is also an event venue. The entire building is surrounded by outdoor seating.

There was a massive wedding party outside, and just after I put my order in they all decided to come into the brewery all at once. The staff wasn’t prepared for the surge (they’d apparently been given no notice) but they handled it well and forced everybody involved with the wedding to form a single-file line rather than inundating the entire circular bar from all sides as they’d initially been doing. This did annoy a few of the wedding guests but it was the only way to avoid chaos.

I noticed beer-battered walleye on the menu, so though I wasn’t really completely hungry yet I went ahead and had some fish & chips. Unfortunately they do not do flights here, so rather than sample several beers I had a glass of Chicken On A Raft (English porter).

Pizza is served, and looked amazing, but I’d just fille dup on chislic and they didn’t have any single-serve options anyway, so I went without.

I had a Reference Point Porter, the Magic Marker (NEIPA), and a Dorothy’s New World Lager by Toppling Goliath Brewing Co. — the latter of which was an accidental mis-pour from one of the guest taps instead of the Magic Marker so was something I got to try for free.

There was a dog at a nearby table that reminded me a lot of my boy back at home so I had to sneak a picture.

This was a bit of an unusual find, as I don’t think I’ve ever seen a bar at the entrance of a trailer park before. My driver commented on that as well.

There was a poker run taking places today that I’d end up crossing paths with 3 or 4 more times throughout the day. This was the earliest-opening participating bar so several participants were hanging out here waiting for the other spots to open. Everybody was really nice and friendly.

I had a Lagunitas IPA, and just as I was nearly finished somebody bought a round for the bar. Not really wanting a second beer already I asked for one of the shots advertised on a sign on the cooler. That was when I found of this is a beer & wine only establishment. The “shots” mentioned were essentially single-serve bottles of wine. So I ended up getting a second Lagunitas instead.

There was a group carpooling to the next bar on the poker run and I briefly considered asking if I could join them, but the place they decided they were heading to next wasn’t part of my itinerary so I stuck with my Uber plan.

My first photo was taken right after I arrived and sat down and shows a fairly quiet bar. 10 minutes later the places was packed. But then, 20 minutes after that when I took the second photo, it was empty again. I’m assuming the largely college-aged crowd likely moved outside to the patio (third photo).

This would be my last stop for the evening, and I then made my LONG walk back to my AirBnB while stopping to look at numerous sculptures and murals along the way.

There were stairs leading to a lower level, but it was unclear to me if that was a public area or staff only. I’m suspecting they likely went to their distilling area and/or pizza kitchen.

I had pre-picked two beers that I was really looking forward to, so naturally they were two of the five with “sold out” signs on the menu board.

I ended up going with the Unnecessary Air Quotes (NEIPA) and the Overlapping Dialogue (Imperial IPA).

While I was enjoying my beer I overheard a conversation at the other end of the bar about how awful the TSA at the local airport (FSD) is. I wondered how the TSA at such a small airport could possibly be that bad and laughed it up. (Two days later I found out the answer: I’m pre-check and basically got two hernia exams anyway.)

At this point, a smart me would have just returned to my hotel room. But I’m not always a smart me, and when I noticed it was basically right across the corner from where I’d just eaten dinner being dumb was too easy a decision to make.

I was expecting a German beer hall with primarily German beer. The actual vibe seemed more like a mashup of craft beer and sports bar with some German food.

Turned out I had nothing to worry about, they were open and there were a few other customers inside. I had simply apparently come in via a side door.

This is a massive dive bar / package shop combo. There’s a long winding bar in the back-middle with a kitchen, and another room with multiple pool tables. There’s casino games, and a patio in the back.

I considered grabbing a bite to eat but my stomach wasn’t feeling too happy, so I just had a Guinness.

Along the way I came across Frost Street Taproom, which had originally been on my if there’s time list. Since I was right here and had missed Duffy’s, now there was time.

Because the building is so skinny it makes the bar area itself feel a bit cramped, and though I took my pictures in such a way as to try not to include any people the bar counter was full.

In the back half of the building there’s mezzanine-level seating, and there’s also a deck in the back that overlooks the alley.

You enter through a liquor store, which is unusual where I’m from but seems to be more common in the northern plains states. The bar is around the corner in the back, divided into the main bar room and a separate back room with a pool table and casino games (another northern plains states staple). There’s also a separate covered patio opposite a breezeway but I didn’t check it out.

The entrance is in the far back, so I walked around three sides of the building to get to it. The murals on each side of the building provide reassurance you are going in the right direction. Once you reach the patio, it becomes abundantly clear where you are.

There’s a leased kitchen vendor on the opposite wall from the bar, as well as… a barber shop? I was happy with the current state of my hair, but I felt a food base before barhopping would be a good idea so I got myself a plate of buffalo shrimp.

For my beer flight I had the Wood Chipper (American IPA), Glacial Plains Alsatian Pilsner, Dad’s Session IPA, and Stone’s Throw (Scottish Ale). While ordering I misunderstood something the bartender said and through she said the Stone’s Throw was out, but she reassured me that not only was it in stock, but it would also be very bad news if they ever let it run out.

There is a small amount of indoor seating, with considerably more seating outdoors under three covered areas. Due to state licensing requirements one of these outdoor seating areas is where you must sit if you plan to order from the distillery menu, but the entire complex is available for wine service. They also serve a handful of brews from Bentonville Brewing.

The patios are dog friendly and water bowls are provided. There is no food, but crackers and popcorn are available to cleanse the palate.

I sampled all of the wines except the Strawberry Trainwreck (I don’t like strawberry) and in a rare situation for me when it comes to wine, I liked nearly all of them. I also had the complete distillery flight, and finished off with a pour of the Hills and Hollers amber lager from Bentonville Brewing.

We bought 5 bottles of wine to take home, and when we asked about a good place nearby to get firewood the owner directed us to a tree he’d recently cut down behind the vineyard and had us load up whatever we wanted.

We’ll definitely be back!

I had a wine flight with what I think was a moscato (I can’t auite make it out in my photo of the menu), the Sunday Ride Viognier, the Odd-Dry Rosé, and the Shack Creek Red — which we liked enough to buy a bottle of. They also brew their own beer, so I had the Riley’s Stout.

Though thisplace has a lot of outdoor seating, I would hesitate to call it dog-friendly because the dogs who live here roam the grounds freely and spend a lot of their time moving from table to table for pets.

We walked in to a jubilant crowd, and as free pudding shots were placed in our hands (they were handing them out to everyone) a voice rang out “It’s Cari with a C!” We looked over and saw the “Kari with a K” birthday party group from The Basket Case last night — minus Kari. They took a picture of us to send to her as proof.

This place used to be a neighborhood grocery store. I don’t know when it was concerted into a bar but it has been the Tartan Inn since at leas 1990. The current owners took over in 2017 or 2019 (I forgot which), and were now celebrating the recent purchase of the entire building as opposed to just the business.

I would not go as far as to call this an LGBTQ bar because the clientele seemed far more diverse, but the décor and welcoming attitudes show it’s definitely LGBTQ-friendly.

Outside is a courtyard with covered and open-air tables, and a separate building labeled “doobie den” that we didn’t investigate so I don’t know if that’s really is or not.

This was our favorite bar of the trip and one of my top favorite bars ever.

I had a pudding shot and a Santa’s Private Reserve (2023 stout) by Rogue Ales.

The oldest continuously-operating bar in West Peoria, eons ago it was believed to be the garage for the house on the other side of what is now the patio. But it has also been an ice house and a barber shop. It was converted into a neighborhood bar in 1933 and quickly became West Peoria’s largest customer for Budweiser. For decades is operated as a stag bar, but today all are welcome.

I had Guinness, and we all gathered in the game room to play slots while the rest of the bar cheered on a football game us visitors had no stake in and didn’t care about. This was where I learned that there are so-called “penny slots” that have a 50-credit minimum bet. Excuse me, casino gaming manufacturers, but if the minimum bet is 50 cents that’s not a penny slot.

The beautiful and cavernous space has a rectangular bar island in the middle, with several different styles of seating areas surrounding it.
There’s a nice-looking pool table, and also a piano. Though I didn’t see it during our visit and only found about it later, there’s an almost equally spacious covered outdoor patio as well as open-air outdoor seating.

This ended up being one of the more unique breweries I’ve ever been to. The farm has been in the same family since the mid-1800s, originally spanning 225 acres and included vegetable plots and an orchard. Much of the property was sold off in the 1990s, and in 2017 they get the idea to use the remaining acreage to grow ingredients to use in beer and begin a brewing operation.

The tap room is in a tiny building that was originally the farm’s “wash house”, containing a gas-powered washing machine. There is seating for about 5 people. Below, in the cellar, is where the beer is brewed. The brewing operation is so small that of the 9 taps, only 4 were their own beer and the rest were guest taps.

But don’t fear the “seating for 5″, because next door is an old detached garage that has been converted into seating for about 15-20. This building is heated by a wood stove and comes equipped with a wide variety of games to play while you’re having your beer. And in warmer weather (which some people did feel today was “warm enough” there is outdoor seating too.

Since they only had 4 of their own beers, I got a flight of them all: Almost Like Thanksgiving (strong ale, their first brew where nearly every ingredient was grown on their farm), Barn Roof Sledder (winter warmer), Tinsel Vibes (imperial red ale), and Castles Burning (Irish red ale). During which we played a game of Sorry! and I got my ass kicked.

We spent so long here that by the time we were ready to leave the sun was getting low. We decided to skip the other wineries and head back into the city.

This is a place you have to know is there and keep your eyes peeled in order to find, because even with GPS taking us straight to the driveway it still took us a moment to find it.

The spacious tasting room is surrounded by grounds with several outdoor seating areas, some overlooking a well-kept pond.

For my tasting I had the Cyndi Ros&eacture;, the Five-05 (a sweet white), the Sunset Red (sweet red), and the Winterzauber (a seasonal cabernet infused with chocolate and raspberries). We ended up buying a bottle of the Winterzauber.

This is a large, dark-finished, multi-room establishment with a bar that pokes through a wall to serve the two main rooms. There’s an outdoor courtyard with a stage and lots of tables, and through the back is a separate (but attached) building with the main indoor stage where a band was getting set up.

For the gentlemen: the restroom in the main bar is for micturition (aka #1) only. You walk down a hall lined with dictionary definitions for various states of inebriation, then enter an elegantly-decorated room with a single wall-length outside trough. “If you need to make use of a cubicle” as the bartender so delicately put it (aka “make poopies”), THAT men’s room is in the back building where the main stage is.

From looking at the web site, it seems I visited fewer than half of the various rooms and buildings that make up this venue.

I had a Guinness and then warmed/yellowed the ice before I left.

The bartender told me that some of the items were brewed with a yeast strain the brewmaster developed and named after his cat. (Or something like that, I was pretty buzzed by that point.)

I had the Esoteric Arcanum Vol. IX (Mead finished on vanilla, nutmeg, cinnamon, and plums) and the Complicated Game (imperial stout).

After the list of all their items brewed in-house, Stag as the only guest tap cracked me up.

The building is a former firehouse, converted to a massive brewery/restaurant. Apart from the large rectangular central bar there are massive seating levels on two levels, plus outdoor seating both on the sidewalk and on a rooftop deck.

My flight consisted of the Steel Cut Stout, the Dundee Export 90 Scotch Ale, Pursuit of Juiciness (NEIPA), and the Capitol (with Simcoe Cask Conditioned) — a pale ale that was a last-moment substitution after the keg blew of whatever I originally wanted in that spot was.

Unfortunately that last second substitution ended up being one of the worst craft beers I’ve ever had. Definitely among bottom ten out of the over 2,700 distinct craft beers I’d had up until then. So unfortunately that’s the memory I was left with. I should have STARTED with that one because any of the other three beers would have ended this visit on a good note!

When we first arrived a tour was getting ready to start so it was a bit hectic, but once the tour group moved to the back it became much calmer.

I was faced with a dilemma. This was the start of the day, so the best strategy would be a few samplings of lower alcohol beers that I was only mildly interested in. But what I really wanted was the Barrel-Aged Epic Blackout Stout, a delicious beast with a powerful 17% ABV but was NOT available in flights. I’d had it before, but never from the source. I really wanted it from the source. So that’s what I chose. And, guess what? The rest of the day would still work out just fine.

At one point I went to use the restroom. Inside the men’s room was a door labeled “employees only”. It was the employee access to the same restroom. That door was also ajar. And I could plainly hear that the tour group was currently gathered right on the other side of that door. I briefly considered the entertainment value of a nice loud fart. Unfortunately (or perhaps fortunately) I just didn’t have it in me.

Beercade is an arcade bar, mainly focused on pinball. We spent a good amount of time here trying out most of not all of the machines.

I had a Gigantic Nitro Stout by Gigantic Brewing Company.

Attached to and affiliated with Beercade is St. Andrew’s Pub, which is naturally where we went next. Though both bars share the same POS (so you can open or close your tab in either bar), the tap lists and it appears even the hours differ.

The menu is primarily German food & beer, but when it came to the food we both got nervous and went with “safe” picks. My friend got kebobs (which turned out to me more like wraps instead of the skewers he was expecting) while I went safer still with chicken strips. Beer-wise I had a Hofbräu Dunkel / Dunkel Gold by Staatliches Hofbräuhaus München.

It was too cold to enjoy the beer garden itself so we stayed inside. But it’s a pretty impressive patio.

Looking back at what all we had passed, we decided Havana Garage looked the most interesting so we backtracked to there.

As it is a cigar bar, it was a bit too smoky inside for our comfort. So we decided to take our drinks to the headed/covered patio out back.

The patio is surrounded with vegetation and included a large tree that passed through one of the tables. The patio has a back alley entrance that we had already passed twice before while walking around today. I thought it looked enticing, my friend thought it look creepy.

As we were leaving I had stopped to use the restroom (which honestly I had to do at least once at every single bar we went to), and I remember something was odd about it but I can’t remember what. I remember it was in the basement, but it was something else. I’ll have to pee there again someday to try to figure out what it was.

There was a well dressed group having a good time at the next table and we bantered back and forth a couple of times. When we were about halfway finished with our drinks they paid their tab and left. A few minutes later they returned and ordered another round.

“Change your mind?” my friend asked them.

“YES!” they said. “It’s POURING out there!”

The weather forecast up to this point (which we had been monitoring frequently) had always insisted on only periods of sprinkles to very light rain. So we assumed they were exaggerating. After we finished our drinks and closed our tab we decided to brave the walk back to the hotel.

NOPE! It was a full-on monsoon outside. Torrents of rain. We stood under the canopy for a minute debating whether to also go back inside. But we were tired, so we decided to awning-hop our way back to the hotel.

This beautifully-decorated wine cafe also serves an assortment of bourbon and exactly one beer (an import from Italy). The attached event spaces can host small weddings and other groups up to 50 people. Out front is a gorgeous patio area.

There are a couple of handmade kaleidoscopes to play with on the bar. One night a week hosts chess matches, another night of the week regularly hosts a psychic.

Beverage-wise I had the one beer they serve — La 150° Bionda by G. Menabrea & Figli — and a glass of Sangria.

We stayed here for quite a while, sharing several plates of appetizers while playing shufflepuck and having a few rounds of drinks.

The bar counter works its way up a few steps, continuing around the corner from the bar room into the main dining area. There is also a big, well-decorated patio in the back.

I had a Dragon’s Milk Reserve: Coffee Chocolate (2023) by New Holland Brewing, an O.C.P. (Oatmeal Creme Pie) (brown ale) by Pigeon Hill Brewing Company, and whatever shots were ordered.

This trough appears to have bene custom-made to fill 100% of the available space.

As we approached we were worried we wouldn’t be able to get in because there was a big crowd of people standing outside the door, but as we turned the corner a shuttle bus showed up to take them all to the baseball game. Inside we found a much quieter bar than it had been just a few minutes earlier.

There are two rooms, the back more suited for eating. There’s also a covered patio in the form of a canopy in a parking lot.

I had Guinness and whatever shot my group ordered a round of.

This is Missouri’s first Black-owned brewery. When the new opening time hit, every car door on Vine opened. Within minutes the brewery went from empty to standing room only on both levels.

I started to order a flight, but then as hey were making it they realized one of the beers I’d asked for were not eligible for flights due to how it needs to be poured. So they called the two they had already poured me “free samples” and I ordered a full pour of their flagship beer. (Jazzman, a black lager, the one that couldn’t be included in a flight.)

The other two beers I tried (the two redeclared as “free samples”) were the East 71 (cream ale) and the Midnight Mississippi (stout).

This is the oldest winery in Missouri to be continuously run by the same family.

We enjoyed our tastings very much and bought several bottles to bring home.

It was pouring down rain rather hard for our entire visit, but there was plenty of covered outdoor seating for us. Various cats roam the grounds and three came to see us.

I don’t remember what all I tasted, but it was quite a bit of things.

After here we headed back to Stone Creek to do the tasting we didn’t have time for yesterday.

No idea who Luke is but we left him alone.

At first this place looked tiny, but then I noticed it occupied both sides of the building and has a large seating area on the half behind the bar. I was also told there is a patio in back though I didn’t go for a look.

Just now, while writing this, I also learned it is a hotel and there are guest rooms on the upper level.

Inside was packed so we went outside to sit. Not seeing any obvious signs that there were servers, a couple of us went inside to order drinks only to be shooed back out with a server following us.

I had half pours of the Coconut Porter and the Kona Coffee Stout. I liked the latter so much I ordered a full pour to follow it up.

I bought the group’s rounds and after I paid the final total seemed too low so I asked her to look up the details and reads them back to me. Good thing I did, I had misplaced a decimal point and accidentally tipped just $2 on a $99 tab. I quickly apologized and handed her a twenty. Accidental assholery averted!

It was pouring down rain, and though the patio was covered the roof did have quite a few leaks, so it seemed a little odd that they were seating everyone outside. But we loved it here. The tap room is in a plain-looking corrugated steel building in an industrial area, if you were just driving by you might never notice or imagine that such a landmark destination brewery would be located here.

There are two main indoor seating areas, a patio out back, a gift shop, and a walk-in cold beer cave. There’s no food directly, but they do have food trucks (not operating during my visit).

I was too late to be able to get a crowler but did get to enjoy two beers not found back home as well as buy some merchandise. I had the Oaked Amber With Coffee Brown and the Chocolate Cake Stout.

This has an expansive seating area both inside and out, with a great view overlooking the bay from both locations. Indoors has a large fireplace for the colder months, a well stocked gift shop, and a separate window in the back for ordering food. In accordance with Alaska’s still-looney brewery laws (even after a 2022 attempt at reform), there is no seating permitted at the bar.

I had the Golden North (pale lager), Statter Oatmeal Stout, Nitro 7 Black (oatmeal stout nitro), Barrel Aged Imperial Brown W/ Cacao Nibs, AukNess (black lager), and Red Spruce (amber ale with locally-picked spruce tips).

Handy tip: Park in the lot on the west side of the building to avoid a lengthy walk of shame around to the correct entrance.

This is an entirely outdoor bar, mostly covered, with firepits at most if not all of the tables. From what I understand, it opened during the COVID lockdowns and for a while was the only bar able to operate in Juneau during that time.

Food is provided by a permanently-parked taco truck right next to the patio.

The adults all had a round of their signature Bear Fart shot, which I chased with a Chuli Stout by Denali Brewing.

It was actually supposed to be my second brewery today, I was planning to have brunch at a place called The Freehouse. But I overslept and didn’t have enough time to go get brunch if I was going to also make it to Surly. And perhaps that was for the best — because of a race being run that morning that cut off the direct routes to Surly, the Uber ride took a lot longer than it should have.

I had the Sydney Loves Kevin (Barrel-aged hazelnut stout) and the Port Barrel Aged Stout. I also grabbed a couple of bottles to go to take back home.

Since I missed out on my brunch, I started looking forward to Surly’s pizza that I’d heard so much about. Denied! Only brunch items here on Sunday morning. Unfortunately I’m too finnicky for nearly everything they had, so I just got some bacon to tide me over until the airport.

Because I did end up making the decision to come over this way, this wasn’t supposed to be my last brewery of the day. I was supposed to go to the nearby Headflyer Brewing next. But I completely spaced on it, skipping ahead a row when I booked my uber, and didn’t realized I’d missed one until several days later after I was already back home in Kansas City. This became even more annoying when I later realized my Uber away from here drove right by Headflyer, but I didn’t see it so was unable to holler for an unplanned stop.

This is a massive German beer brewery with a huge indoor beer hall and a massive covered outdoor area that was getting a lot of use despite the weather.

Even with all that seating, there was no place for me to sit. I had to just kind of find a spot sort of out of the way to stand and drink my beer. Because of this, I opted to have just one beer: Mostly Umlauts (German chocolate stout).

Out in the parking lot three drivers were apparent morons and parked in such a way that created a third row, blocking one of the drive paths and completely boxing in three other vehicles. By the time I left one of those trapped vehicles had managed to escape after a properly-parked car across from it left.

I didn’t need to worry about the parking lot though, as from here it was a short walk to the next place.
